Officers
The membership of the Gallatin Avenue Concerned Citizens Association elected new officers for 2011:
President Larry Vilk
Larry was born in Uniontown, attended Redstone High School, and graduated from Brownsville Redstone High School. He and his wife Barbara, from Ralph, PA have lived in the Gallatin Avenue neighborhood for 35 years. They have a son, Craig, who lives on Rt. 21, and a daughter, Lisa Smith, who lives near Philadelphia with her husband Chris and their two children, Lisa and Wesley.
Larry is retired from Norfolk Southern after 41 years of work with the railroad. He spends his time maintaining his home, taking care of his yard, tending the flowers, and volunteering his time for GACCA. He is always on hand at the monthly meetings, car shows, festivals, and community clean-ups.
Vice President Randy Eicher
Randy and his wife, Tammy, have three children, Randy Jr., Corey, and Morgan who they are very proud of. Tammy is very active at Lafayette School and the whole family attends Randy Jr.'s football games. He plays for Uniontown High School.
Randy and his wife Tammy have been members of GACCA since its inception. They and their children are very active, helping out at all of GACCA's events including the car shows, pumpkin festivals and clean-ups. They also played a big part in the construction of the community garden.
Secretary Elizabeth "Sis" Coffman
Aside from being born in Smock and spending two years in Massachusetts, Sis, as everyone knows her, has lived in Uniontown her entire life. She met and married her husband Alva in Uniontown in 1950. Soon after, Alva and Sis moved to Massachusetts where Alva was stationed while serving in the Army Security Agency. They raised two sons in the Uniontown home in which she has lived for 53 years. Her son Alva Jr. still resides in Uniontown and her son David lives in West Palm Beach, Florida. She has two grandsons, Ryan and Daniel.
For 22 years Sis was part owner of Betty King's Draperies which was located at the corner of Penn Street and Gallatin Avenue. Then for eleven years she was a custom decorator for Sears. She attends the Third Presbyterian Church, Grace Bible Class, and is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. This holiday season she is volunteering as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army.
Being a member of GACCA means that she can try to "bring the neighborhood back to what it was, a safe quiet place where neighbors helped neighbors and the children could play out in the street".
