Gallatin Avenue Pumpkin Festival a Smash!

What happens to a pumpkin when it is dropped 95’ from a fire truck?  Kids of all ages found out at the Gallatin Avenue Pumpkin Festival on Saturday October 24, 2009, at the Gallatin Avenue American Legion.   The GACCA-sponsored event also answered the question, “What can you do with a pumpkin?” by holding a number of pumpkin activities including the pumpkin drop, pumpkin decorating, and pumpkin bowling.  In addition, a Punt Pass and Kick competition was held, crafters sold their wares, food was available from the Lardin House Inn, Macini’s, and Yum Yum Bagels, a car show was held, a Uniontown Police Department motorcycle was on display, and music was provided by blue grass band “Blue Shades” and DJ “Arnie Amber and His Dusty Platters”.

The idea of the pumpkin drop was to determine which child’s decorated pumpkin best survived a 35 foot drop from a Uniontown fire truck (as well as which one was smashed the most)! After the contest, the fireman took the latter up to 95 feet for the grand finale, the dropping of 3 pumpkins.

Our thanks to the numerous GACCA volunteers including Image and Identity Committee members Jim and Marcy Beck, Sarah Jones, and Judy Vrabel.  Also, thanks to our numerous donors: Pirhl Developers, Mitchell’s Plumbing and Heating, Becks Wrecks and Vintage Parts, Detweilers’ Pre-Owned Automobiles, Fayette Plumbing and Heating, Mary Lou Resko, Palumbo’s Pre-Owned Vehicles, Autozone, Frank’s Auto Supermarket, McDonald’s, State Theatre, and Yum Yum Bagels!
