Elm Street Assistant Hired
The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Uniontown has hired Rebecca Hilton as a part-time Elm Street Assistant. Her first day was November 15, 2010. Here is Rebecca's story in her own words:
When I was five months old, in 1952, my family settled on farmland near Buffalo, NY and I graduated from Ellicottville High School in 1969. Immediately after high school, I came to Hopwood and attended Penn State Fayette for a year, then married, and had two sons - Dylan and Aaron Sullivan. I now have three grandchildren – Ashley, Elizabeth, and Beck.
In 1978 I decided to finish my schooling at SUNY in Buffalo where I earned a BS degree. For twenty years I was the Operations Administrator/Photographer for a whitewater rafting photography company based in PA and WV. During the off season I stayed busy substitute teaching, working at ski resorts, and showing my photography in AZ, NY, PA, and OH. In 2003 I began working for Touchstone Center for Crafts as Fiber Studio Assistant, eventually becoming Resident Manager.
I decided that encouraging city residents to have pride in their neighborhoods and become more self sufficient through gardening would be a meaningful endeavor. While organizing and working at the 26 Lincoln Street Community Garden I learned of the posting of the Elm Street Assistant position and submitted my resume. I am very pleased to have been selected and will work diligently to further the efforts of the neighborhood residents to revitalize this community.
Welcome aboard Rebecca!
