Five houses are completed and two more are under construction on Maple Street in the Gallatin Avenue Neighborhood. Of the five homes that have been completed three have been sold. A total of ten homes are to be constructed.
The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Uniontown (RACU) is the developer of the project with Threshold Housing serving as the contractor. The idea to develop the homes came from the Elm Street Revitalization Plan developed in 2005 by Gallatin Avenue residents. The Maple Street site formerly featured 12 vacant and dilapidated homes that were purchased and demolished by the RACU to make way for this new development.
All of the new homes will be single-family detached and for-sale. A variety of layouts will be available including ranch, split entry, and a two story. All of the homes will feature 3 bedrooms and 2 1⁄2 baths.
A Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) grant secured by the development by the Fayette County Redevelopment Authority is being used to construct the homes. As the homes from each phase are sold, sale proceeds will be used to construct the next phase of homes. The NSP funding allows for very generous income limits of 120% or less of the median income. The sales price of each home will be based on the appraised value, and the buyer will receive a deferred second mortgage that will make the home affordable.
